Music Bank's 2010 Half-Year Special

Today's Music Bank in a way marked the end of the first half of 2010. During this special, viewers were treated to performances of songs that were popular from January to June. No surprise as to who won the K-chart... if you don't really want to bother with the guessing find out who won after the cut.

Some of the performances/special stages were a bit of a let down. I usually LOVE these specials because of the energy, spirit, and quality of the performance but many of the singers just seemed to put in less effort and some looked tired. Too many have been overworked and that showed a bit tonight. But at the end of the day I still enjoyed every minute of it.

Gummy's New Mini-Album...

may be called 러브리스 (Loveless), but I'm completely in love with her latest song 사랑은 없다 (There is No Love). Gummy is an amazing veteran singer and her vocal delivery for this song is full of emotion. The lyrics speak volumes about how a woman feels after a failed love and I'm sure ladies everywhere can relate.
Although this is not her title track, I'm sure it will be a hit. Gummy will be coming out with a second music video for her title song called Because You're a Guy. Since it will be produced by Teddy, it will certainly have more of a hip-hop vibe as compared to this first song and her previous RnB hits. Her full mini-album drops on April 29th.

What can I say? I'm not really into it. I don't see anything new or exciting. I was really expecting them to up their game especially with what's happened, but I'm left wanting more. Why does it have to be so gloomy? And why is Nichkhun being forced to rap? LOL

I'm a HUGE fan of the variety show 1박 2일 (1 Night 2 Days), so when I heard the new theme song I fell completely in love with it as well. Sung by 길학미 (Gil Hak Mi) and 한보라 (Han Bora), Let's Go Paradise is really lively and sounds like a summer hit. The music video is really simple and random but it's still a nice collaboration.

"Outlaw in the Wild" MV

Here's something to brighten up the day. 4Minute's Hyun Ah and rapper Nassun have collaborated for a track called 황야의 무법자 (Outlaw in the Wild). This was a good but unexpected surprise. There was news that Hyun Ah would be making her solo comeback soon but ahead of that she contributed to this song for E-Tribe's project album 201004. The music video has a really cute Western animation concept.

I find it hilarious that Nassun's character rides a donkey. He sure is one bada** cowboy.

Bubi Bubi with T-ara & Yoon Si Yoon

Bubi Bubi phone endorsement models T-ara and actor Yoon Si Yoon have finally released their two-part CF music video dramas.

The first video features the 부비부비 (Bubi Bubi) track by Kim Chae Won and is fairly light and upbeat. Part two features the song 잠이 깨면 (Fall In Sleep When He Wakes Up). I'm pretty impressed with Yoon Si Yoon's vocals, not only did he do a decent job but it's a ballad as well, so no auto-tune to hide behind if he lacked the talent.

Released on the 15th, Bubi Bubi's OST Part 1 has a total of four tracks.

Get Hyped! Park Jaebeom (Jay Park) Confirmed for "Hype Nation"!

According to NATE News, Jay Park's casting for a role in the upcoming movie Hype Nation has been confirmed. He will be expected to go to Korea in June for filming. This long awaited return to the spotlight has been on the minds of all of his fans and this seems like a great move for Jay.

Hype Nation is about the world of b-boying and Jay will be taking on the lead character. Although he's making his acting debut, he will also return to his roots by singing a track on the movie's OST. The female lead is still yet to be cast, but there are rumors that they are screening members of different girl groups.

Exciting news?! Yes!...I can't wait for future updates/details.

Lee Hyori's "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" MV

So what kind of logic should we expect from Lee Hyori's mini-album H-Logic?

Well according to the album cover it should be "hot," "happening," and a whole bunch of other words starting with the letter "h." Despite some leaked tracks, we're finally able to see the result of Hyori's long awaited comeback with the music video of her title song Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Fans' early reviews are mixed as there are a lot of comparisons to other artists in terms of her video/fashion concepts. I have to say I'm on the borderline of like and dislike. Perhaps my expectations were different because I really enjoyed her track Swing more. It showcased the growth and maturity of Hyori the "artist" as compared to Hyori the "pop star." Hopefully the live stage performances are better as it will seem toned down compared to the busy, varying scenarios that had a lot going on in the video.

LOL = Lots of LOVE for Rain's "Love Song" MV

Out of all the April comebacks, Rain's comeback was among the top three that I looked forward to the most. I'm sure many others share the same sentiments as it is his return to the kpop scene after two years. His last album, Rainism, was released in 2008. This special album is entitled Back to Basics, and will be released next week on April 7th.

I was so excited that the title track is a ballad and as always Rain didn't disappoint. I love the fact that he wrote and created Love Song (널 붙잡을 노래/The Song To Make You Want To Stay) himself. It utilizes the piano beautifully and I'm loving the chorus. The music video accompanying it makes you wish you were Korean actress Han YeSeul, who stars as Rain's love interest.

The choreography involves a lot of gyrating and sexy waves. Don't we all like it when Rain reveals his abs...*wink wink*?!?!?

Lee Hyori's "Swing" MV

I was really surprised when I heard Swing. Although people are not used to this side of Lee Hyori, I think this mellow song is a really nice change. It's a great moody track that reminds me of an old tragic French/Latin love affair. Hyori does a good job of capturing the necessary emotion that makes this an excellent song. Garry of LeeSsang fame, is the featured rapper.

This is not the title track from Hyori's upcoming comeback album H-Logic, but this gives us an idea that her album will be diverse, perhaps showing different genres of music.

The music video is pretty simple and it certainly displays that moody sadness. The clown was a bit much I think but I can understand what they were trying to convey. I can't wait until the release of her album.

Secret's "Magic" is...

a bit disappointing. Magic seems very old school. Don't get me wrong, I love old school kpop but I'm not sure how well this song can compete with other groups. I like the fact that they don't use auto-tune as they have good vocals. Rapper Zinger even gets an opportunity to showcase her voice.
I think I'll have to hear this song a few more times before I actually get into it. I believe this group has a lot of potential so hopefully the rest of the tracks off their first mini-album Secret Time are better than this one.

Most Kpop fans probably have not heard of 뜨거운 감자 (Hot Potato) but I've been a fan of theirs for awhile now. They're an indie rock group whose most well known member is Kim C, currently part of the 1 Night 2 Days cast. Hot Potato recently came out with a new album that explores more into different genres of music and even takes a crack at hip-hop.

The music video for their title song 시소 (Seesaw) has been released and its a mini-drama with the concept made up by the band. I like both the song and the video. Kim C's vocals are really soothing.

Asian American hip hop artist JohnnyPhlo has announced on his official facebook page that he will be performing with Park Jaebeom aka Jay Park at Rutgers University April 3rd !!!

Fans around the world rejoice! Jay is slowly returning to us one step at a time. After creating a youtube account, Jay has been communicating to his fans through messages and he promises to load more videos soon. This is a great and very big step into getting back into the business. Welcome back Jay!

Kim Tae Woo and Narsha for Anycall

Kim Tae Woo and Brown Eyed Girls' Narsha participated in a recent Anycall CF music video and it's just so darn cute! I'm glad to see them continue their friendship outside of Invincible Youth, even if it is still work related.
The song used for the CF is called 우심폰까 and samples Kim Tae Woo's track 내가 야! 하면 넌 예!, in which he originally did a duet with Lyn. The lyrics of the song were changed of course to fit the promotion.

It really takes dedication, effort, and patience among a whole lot of other skills for the members of After School to have learned to play the drums. It's been said that they practiced for about five months and their hard work will be worth the effort when they make their comeback on Music Bank today. We get an early glimpse of their performance as Pledis Entertainment has released a music video of a drum only version of their intro. track Let's Do It!

Bonus Clips:
Group members JungAh and leader GaHee personally participated in the drum session for Let's Do It and this is a great behind the scenes footage of the recording.

Pledis also released UCC video of the new member Lizzy performing a cover of Rihanna's Take a Bow. I'm not completely impressed by her voice, but we'll see how well she does in the future.

After School Comes Out with a "Bang"

As a former band geek I was excited for After School's new concept. It brings back a lot of memories, although I certainly didn't look as cool as the girls do in their music video for Bang.
I was a huge fan of the movie Drumline and can concede to how difficult it is to learn how to play an instrument as well as perform in sync so I really can't wait to see them perform this live.

Although it was a shock that Pledis decided to add another group member, hopefully she can contribute to the success of the group.

2AM's "I Did Wrong" Part 2

I've been impatiently waiting for the release of the second part to 2AM's music video drama for I Did Wrong. Although the plot is something familiar, I wasn't at all disappointed. I loved how the Prologue song was used in the video. Its a softer and amazingly beautiful instrumental version of I Did Wrong. Sure it's dramatic but it captures some great emotion and I wished they used the whole track instead of sampling a bit of it.

"Personal Taste" Preview 2

The second preview for Personal Taste was released a few days ago as well as four promotional posters yesterday.

I like how the posters focus on displaying the laid back friendship between Lee Minho and Sohn Yejin's characters. I really hope they have a wonderful connection on screen. We get our first glimpse of idol Im Seulong in his first drama role. I have a feeling his character will be a source of humor as a second male lead that is somewhat whiney and annoying in his pursuit of the lead female.

SNSD's "Run Devil Run" MV

I had a busy day today and as a result wasn't able to post right away about SNSD's music video for Run Devil Run.

Now that I have been able to see it, was it what I expected? Yes and no. Their concept has been seen and done before so there were no surprises there. The song however has since grown on me from when I last heard it. The unexpected tidbit that I learned was that this song was originally recorded as a demo by American pop star Ke$ha. Since the original was only a demo, it's said that Ke$ha has no claim on the song and thus fans don't have to worry about plagarism claims against SNSD/SM Entertainment.

An Answer to My Prayers

Ok so I didn't really pray, but I seriously said to a friend that I wished the previews for Oh! My Lady were longer. Low and behold an almost 10 minute preview was released today. Sure it includes the two previews from before, but its still chock-full of new scenes.

Also, the cast and crew recently held a press conference for the drama and I've gotta say that the little girl they've chosen to play Sung Minwoo (Siwon)'s daughter is absolutely adorable. She and Siwon look like they'll make a great father-daughter pair.

2AM's "I Did Wrong" MV

I can never have enough mv dramas, so when I found out that 2AM's next music video release for 잘못했어 (I Did Wrong) would have a set plot, I was even more excited to see it.

The song despite its upbeat and danceable quality has sad lyrics and goes against 2AM's previous style. I really like the song but am a little disappointed at the amount of autotune as they are too talented and should not need it.

This group has been on a roll entertainment wise and their repackaged album is sure to bring in big numbers.

Girl group 티아라 (T-ara) has released three different music videos for their song 내가 너무아파 (I'm Hurt). Their concept for this set of videos revolves around a tomboy or neutral gender theme. I'm not exactly sure why they released three videos as the parts don't really differ too much nor do they tell a continuing story line from part one to part three.

This is the second track they are promoting off their recent repackaged album. The song I Go Crazy Because of You has been doing well on the charts and perhaps I'm Really Hurt will receive the same attention.

Big Bang's Official 'Lollipop 2' MV

I've been waiting for the full music video of Big Bang's Lollipop 2 and now that I've seen it I feel like I exposed myself to too many "spoilers." What I mean by that is because I saw the director's cut and the promotional pictures I didn't feel that element of surprise or initial excitement for the final product.

I still enjoyed the video however and am sure that with Big Bang as their models LG Cyon will have a successful promotion of their Lollipop phones.

"Personal Taste" Preview

Along with Oh My Lady, MBC's Personal Taste is another drama that I am really looking forward to seeing. From the preview and the promotional photos, I have a good feeling that this will be a fun and light romantic comedy. It stars Boys Over Flowers actor Lee MinHo and film actress Sohn YeJin.

Adapted from a novel, Personal Taste is about a woman named KaeIn (Sohn YeJin) who has experienced bad relationships and decides that she should get herself a gay best friend. She meets JinHo (Lee MinHo) and mistakes him as being gay. They become roommates and JinHo who falls for KaeIn decides to keep up the impression of being gay in order to stay close to her. It sure sounds like we're up for a lot of laughs. The first episode of this Wednesday-Thursday drama airs March 31st and replaces The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry.

This music video is really long overdue as its been about a month since the single was released. Like their previous videos, 2NE1's Try to Follow Me has a lot going on visually with colors, as well as a mishmash of themes and concepts. I guess by releasing the music video now it will keep the group in the fans' minds while they are away from the music scene and other girl groups like T-ara, SNSD, and KARA are duking it out participating actively on music shows.

Brian's "In My Head" MV

I'm on the fence about Brian's newest single In My Head. One of the reasons is that I didn't even really like the original song sung by Jason Derulo. It just doesn't connect with me and I prefer Jason's other hit Whatcha Say to this one.
Brian changed the backing track a tiny bit and I think his vocals are good. I'm sure others will like this, but it's just not for me. The music video is full of close up shots and not much else. If I were to listen to this song, I'd prefer the live version.

Baek JiYoung's "Will Love Come?" ft. Mighty Mouth

The music video for 백지영 Baek Ji Young's Will Love Come? (사랑이 올까요) featuring Mighty Mouth is interesting but has me thinking that it had potential to be a really good video. It falls short to fully impress me. I could see what they were trying to accomplish by adding an element of interpretative dance in order to express the emotion of the song and the characters acting out the story-line. However it was all one level, as if it were a monotone dance. There was no build up or climax of emotion that should have gone along with the song.

F. CUZ Returns with "No One" MV

I really want to like 포커즈 (F. Cuz) because for the most part they have really good vocals, but I just haven't gotten into them. I find the music they've released so far to be too generic and nothing for me stands out. However, as always I'm keeping open minded and am waiting for the day that this group will surprise me. For those who do enjoy them, you'll be glad to know they've returned with a new song called No One.
The music video has been released a day ahead of their mini-album release. The mini-album includes four new tracks along with their debut song, Jiggy, and a No One instrumental. I do think that their latest song is much better than Jiggy. In fact thw whole album is definitely an improvement so I am looking forward to their growth and seeing whether they'll carve a better place for themselves in the future. Their comeback will be on Music Bank.

K. Will's "Present" ft. Eun Jiwon MV

I love 케이윌 (K. Will)'s voice and was completely surprised about his comeback. I didn't hear much about it and all of a sudden he released some fabulous teasers for a digital single called 선물 (Present) featuring Eun JiWon. The really cute music video has just been released and I'm completely loving the song.

Many famous faces make an appearance including idol stars U-Kiss‘ Dongho, Beast’s Lee KiKwang, and MBLAQ’s Thunder. Also featured are the child actors Hwang SeokHyun from Speedy Scandal and Jin JiHee from High Kick Through the Roof.

Compilation of Epik High's "Run" Teasers

Epik High's Epilogue album is bound to be another hit and everyone can't wait to get their hands on it when it's released March 9th. There have been so many teasers that I decided to just compile them in one post instead of creating individual posts. Re-watching the clips and looking at the pictures may hold you over the few more hours left.

The album's promotional poster seems really simple at first glance, but what's interesting is that Mithra and Tablo's feet don't touch the floor. It's something unexpected for a track called Run, so perhaps there's a meaning behind it. The photo for the poster was taken by Koyote's Baekga, who's honing his photography skills and resting in the U.S. in order to recover from his brain surgery.

My favorite teaser by far were the comic strips created especially for a preview of the lyrics. Luckily they didn't forget their international fans and created an English version of the comic.

Oh! My Siwon....I mean "Oh! My Lady" Preview

Oh My Lady is a drama I've been anticipating ever since I read about its story-line and heard who will be playing the lead characters. I have very high hopes in this production as a romantic comedy somewhat reminiscent of My Lovely Samsoon, in that it follows the older woman with a younger man trend.

In the leading roles are actress Chae Rim and Super Junior's Siwon. According to Dramabeans,

"Chae Rim plays an ordinary housewife who becomes the manager of a top star in this romantic comedy series. Her character is a spunky 35-year-old ajumma who takes the job to earn money so she can take back her young child, who is in the care of her husband. Choi’s character is a prickly actor who finds himself in an absurd living situation with Chae Rim, but then falls for her."

Based on the preview, I'm sure there will be a lot of hilarious antics from Siwon's character who seems like an over-the-top celebrity that will be "brought down to earth" by a woman with more common sense. It definitely looks like a fun drama with a light mood and hopefully Chae Rim and Siwon have good chemistry.

The first episode airs on SBS March 22nd, taking over the 9pm Monday-Tuesday time slot previously held by Wish Upon a Star.

MC Mong and Seo InYoung's Bubble Love MV

MC몽 (MC Mong) and 서인영 (Seo InYoung)'s wonderful collaboration for the Cho Young Soo - All Star 2.5 album has resulted in a beautiful song called 버블 러브 (Bubble Love). The music video was released today. Although the video is simple, I always enjoy seeing behind the scenes or "the makings of" clips of a song's production.

The All Star 2.5 album features some really nice tracks that have been previously released.

2AM's New Reality Show "2AM Day" Preview

IAMs have a lot to look forward to with the recent announcement of a new 2AM song and music video in the works. In addition to this I'm personally excited about the group's upcoming reality show, 2AM Day, and now we finally get to see a preview!

This show is made up of videos taken by the members themselves and is 100% real. The fact that the boys usually play around with camcorders allowed production to take those moments and compile them for this show. Since this is self-cam/CCTV, the PD said that the most they would do to the footage is add captions and improve video quality.

It's wonderful to see 2AM get more recognition and now we'll get to see even more of their true selves. The first episode airs March 10th on MNET.

8Eight's "Term of Validity" MV

에이트 (8eight) is really changing it up for their upcoming album. This is clearly evident in their new music video for their song 유효기간(Term of Validity/Availability Period). The new concept is avant-garde and reminds me of G Dragon's A Boy music video.

They give off an edgy feel that I think suits the group well. I'm really liking the song. Some people say there is too much "machine" but I don't think there is as much as they claim. I can hear their vocals and feel it's not covered up by autotune. Their album Start of The Bridge drops March 30th. I'm sure the album will still provide fans what they want for those who miss their ballads.

After School's GaHee, JeongAh, & Becca Perform "Bad Guy" Live

애프터스쿨 (After School) recently held their first fan meeting and those who were lucky enough to attend were able to experience a live performance of 나쁜놈 (Bad Guy), the banned song from their debut album New School Girl.

It's great song, but was banned from music shows because the lyrics were considered too inappropriate for broadcast. GaHee, JeongAh, and Becca showed off why they are three of the most powerful and fierce members of the bunch. After School will be making their comeback later this month.

D-NA's Debut Track "Tokyo Boy" MV

대국남아 (D-NA aka Dae Guk Nam Ah) is a new boy band that will be debuting later today on MNET's M! Countdown. Frankly I didn't take an initial interest due to the fact that the group's average age is 17! They will be the youngest idols and I'm sure that if they have a successful debut they will become a very popular. Naming DBSK as their role models, sets this group up for a similar path if the fan base compares and likens the two to each other.
Their title track is called 동경소년 (Tokyo Boy). I truly don't understand why they would use that title with a Korean boy band. The song is average, but I can tell that it will appeal to many teenage kpop fans.

December (디셈버) is a super talented duo that has gained some recognition as a ballad group in a sea of idol stars. Their latest single, 배운게 사랑이라 (Learned About Love) showcases their excellent vocals and is surprisingly uptempo. I have a feeling that the music video may be banned by some Korean networks. The story line is odd in that the main leads play a game of pointing guns at one another, but are smiling as if they are playing tag. Also some networks might think sections of the video are too racy. Whether it's banned or not, at least the song is amazing!

I like 원투 (One Two), but it took me awhile to warm up to their latest song 와랄라 랄라레 (Walala Lalale). I saw the comeback performance yesterday on Inkigayo and the live was really interesting so I gave the song another listen. Although I prefer their track Bad Girl ft. Seo In Young, I think this one has a catchy chorus and the music video is really strong and dramatic.

UPDATED Park Jaebeom Will Not Return to 2PM

It's raining where I'm from and just like this dark and dreary morning, many Hottests are feeling dark and dreary wth the official announcement that Park Jaebeom will not be returning to 2PM.

JYP Entertainment expressed in an online letter:

“What Jay had written on his personal website did not seem to be right for people. Nevertheless, we did not think this is a serious issue as he should leave the entertainment industry or 2PM for good. That’s because the post had been written in a personal place while he had got through difficult time as a trainee. However, we understood that Jay wanted to have time for confession.

We could have persuaded Jay to stay in 2PM as 7 members, not leaving 2PM. However, it was obvious that his posts would have been hurt people, even though there are some mistranslated parts, exaggerated by netizens. At the moment, making an excuse for Jay and remaining as 7 members could harm Jay’s personal image for the public. For that reason, we agreed with his decision.

There were previous cases that the entertainer himself or his agency didn’t admit the fault and the agency tried to justify him. The opinion of the public got worse because of thier attitude. We saw those kinds of cases several times, so we thought it would be better for Jay to leave 2PM voluntarily and have time for confession.

Fortunately, the public opinion got better after Jay’s leaving on 2PM. Many people thought we should give him another chance. We did not offically announce the fact that we had a plan to have Jay back, because we’re afraid that it can have a bad influnece for the public opinion which started to sympathize with Jay. Nevertheless, right after Jay went back to Seattle, we began to find great teachers who could teach Jay singing, dancing and acrobatics. In fact, JinYoung Park, who is the producer of JYP, visited Seattle to meet those teachers and give a pre-lesson, 29th of September last year. We completed a perfect education programme.

The contracts of every adversitement, event and stage were not limited to 6 members which acts now on. There was always a contract clause that it would change to 7 members after Jay’s coming back. We were preparing for Jay’s come back to Korea.

In November last year, we suggested Jay to make a comeback in the album which would be released on April, this year. As Jay agreed with this suggestion, we completed a plan for Jay’s comeback. We were supposed to hold a press conference in the 3rd week of Feburaury, right after Seol holiday, and 2PM would start again with 7 members on March.

The public opinion became favorble after Jay’s leaving. It is expected that Jay’s comeback would make a lot of energy. Most importantly, we knew that fans would support us again. For those reasons, our company and all 7 members were excited. However, we’re worried about the public opinion which would change negatively once again, if we announce the news of Jay’s comeback. We did not declare this plan despite a lot of criticism of fans.

However, on 22th of December last year, Jay urgently called Jung-Wook who is the representitive of JYP entertainment. He confessed that he had committed a huge fault privately. The fault, which he had committed while they released Again & Again in the last summer, became a problem. We cannot reveal what exactly the fault is since it’s about his privacy. However, it was much worse than the problem of last September. It can bring a more serious problem socially as well.

We wanted to discuss about this topic with 2PM members directly, but, since they were really happy witht the news of Jay’s comeback plan and had great results in awards, we couldn’t let them know at the moment. Therefore, we told them 3th of January, when thier offical activity was finished. 6 members, who were quite shocked, agonized this issue. 6th of January, 3 days after, all the members expressed their opinion that it would be hard to be with Jay anymore.

Our company decided to cancle the contract with Jay, under the decision that he is not appropriate for our company. We wanted to let you know our decision right away. We’re sorry to be late to announce it, owing to Jay’s personal reason.

The things that are mentioned so far are all real, not including any false. We should be sincere because this topic influences 2PM, which are valuable singers, the hearts of people who loves them, a lot of presses and the public. The reason for clarifying what happend between Jay and our company is that it will bring more controversy and suspicion among fans and the press if we make another reason for covering it.

We’re truly sorry to announce this news for fans and lots of people who have been waiting for Jay’s comeback. Our company will make more and more efforts with 6 members in order to come with better 2PM.

Thank you."

We will never know the whole of this situation and any news given to us through the media and even through JYP Entertainment itself will most likely never be enough to satisfy the curiosity and demand of fans for information. Moreover, it's unfortunate that rumors and false information is already circulating with this recent announcement.

T-ara's "I Go Crazy Because of You" MV

T-ara is one of those K-pop groups that keeps getting better and better with each new release. They're setting themselves apart from many of the other girl groups and I love the new tracks on their Absolute First Album: Repackaged Edition.

The latest song, 너 때문에 미쳐 (I Go Crazy Because of You), composed by Wheesung does give off a Britney Spears vibe but I think the girls pull it off.

IU's 5th Finger

Nineteen is one of the movies on my "I want to watch" list, and not just because it stars Big Bang's Top and SeungRi. Tracks for the movie's OST are being released and I really love IU's contribution with 다섯째 손가락 (5th Finger). It sounds sort of like a melancholic but beautiful lullaby. I think IU has one of the best voices in K-pop and her soft and breathy vocals really gave the song a light tone.

I was really excited to see movie footage in the music video and I thought the scenes they used really matched the mood of the song. Now I'm even more psyched to see it!

Mono Diary has "Memories of the Song"

I'm completely and utterly in love with 모노다이어리 (Mono Diary)'s 추억이라 부르는 이름의 노래 (Memories Of The Song), and the accompanying music video that goes with it. Absolutely one of my top ten songs so far for 2010.

I just melt into this soothing indie rock track with great guitar, bass, and vocals. The music video is so creative and uses animation. I recommend viewing it at least twice, once to listen to the song and next time to carefully watch the video. There are so many cute details within the plot that you will miss them the first time.

1sagain (원써겐) is one of my favorite S. Korean rappers and unfortunately he doesn't get enough exposure. Although he's known for his awesome collaborations with Ju Bora, his latest title track Love Me Love Me, features Kim Hyeon Min (김현민). Hyeon Min's soft vocals are a perfect match for this song. Overall the track's sound is very light and pleasing with really nice piano/keyboard compositions.

The music video is also very lovely utilizing the cute couple story-line and soft, but bright imagery.

KaRa Unveils "Lupin" MV

KaRa has revealed the music video for their comeback song, Lupin, off their 3rd mini-album. I'm quite disappointed with the outcome. The video has no apparent plot which many were expecting. I can see what they wanted to accomplish in terms of showing the girls' maturity and evolution as a group, but the video doesn't showcase much.

I do like their style change. I think all of the girl groups are now trying for an edgier but classic concept with darker tones. The choreography is supposed to be "better" than their dance for Mister, however I am still on the fence and would like to see what the choreography looks like live. Their first comeback stage will be on MNET's M! Countdown.

Sponge Band "Can't Hear You"

After a long wait 스폰지밴드 (Sponge Band)'s mini-album The Beginning has dropped, as well as the music video for their title track 안들려 (Can't Hear You). Now that I've heard the whole song, I'm not as impressed. I was expecting something more and it seems like any generic pop song. It is slowly growing on me though, and I like how the girls chime in with a short rap. I appreciate the group dynamics with one guy to four girls because it adds variety but I'm not sure if they have what it takes to make an impact yet. We'll see how they do on music shows.

Big Bang and LG Cyon are back at it again with a new campaign for Lollipop phones. The new track, Lollipop Part. 2, is out and I'm absolutely hooked on it. Definitely new ear candy to add to my playlist.

Last year's collaboration included 2NE1, but I'm loving the fact that it's just Big Bang this time around. The feel of the song is completely different from the original. Upon first listen it didn't seem to hit as hard and I thought it on the mellow side. However the chorus is super catchy and I got caught up. The song definitely oozes "male" with its lyrics. Behind the scenes teasers to the music video have also hit the net and I'm glad to see that the colors are still bright and vivid. There was a contest for a "Lollipop Girl," so fans are looking forward to finding out who was chosen.

Song Review: "Heard Em' All"

I know people were expecting a lot for the collaboration involving half-Korean Amerie with CUBE Entertainment's 4Minute and Beast, so to have them just do a remake disappointed a lot of fans. Heard Em' All off her album, In Love and War, was originally a fierce track and I wondered how they would incorporate 4Minute and Beast. 4Minute ended up singing the verses while Beast's Jun Hyung was barely even featured. As this track is for Amerie's Korean album release there is a mix of Korean and English lyrics. I like the new version as much as the original as it didn't really change and the rhythmic beats offer something different from current music in mainstream k-pop.

One Way (원웨이): As a fan of hip hop, I appreciate this track for its flow, good rapping, and catchiness.

U Drag (유드레그 ): Their talent really shines here. Amazing vocals and a great blend of Korean and English made me compeletly fall for this song. This is definitely a group to watch out for.

Redsoul's 'Heartbeat' Goes 'Tik Tok'

The amazingly talented acapella group Redsoul released their debut music video 뒤로 걸어요 (Walk Back) three days ago. Featured on the SBS variety show Star King, where they first received recognition, they have again shown their talent by covering 2PM's Heartbeat and Tik Tok.

The outcome is truly genius! I loved, loved, loved how they combined the two songs. The harmonies are also really tight.

뒤로 걸어요 (Walk Back) is the title track off their first mini-album Color is Red, which was released on Feb. 8th. One fun fact about this video is that it's actually a pv or picture video. Stills were used to tell the story with clips of the members singing their parts in the booth tossed into the mix.

Cass Beer 'TIK TOK' Drama MV with 2PM and Yoon Eun Hye

Cass Beer has done it again. Their latest marketing ploy really captures your attention in more ways than one. I think music video dramas that endorse products are ingenious when they're done right. I've seen movies with similar plots like the one used for this CF, but I didn't realize how it would all play out upon first watch. I was taken by surprise with Yoon Eun Hye's character. Another surprise is the guest appearance of Tiara's Bo Ram.

Acting opposite these ladies are the ever popular beastly idols 2PM. Jun Ho and Chan Sung unfortunately couldn't partake in filming as they are under the drinking age. However the other members made up for their missing group-mates with good acting and cameos. I was really happy with NichKhun and Taec Yeon as the male leads. Seeing these clips really makes me look forward to their acting debuts. NichKhun is set to star in the movie, The Shining Diploma, while Taec will be one of the leads in the drama Cinderella's Sister. If what I saw of them in the clips is any indication to what they can bring to their future projects, then they should be able to handle themselves well amongst the veteran actors.

The mood of this almost 13-minute CF was well created and use of the music track, Tik Tok, well placed throughout. As much as I loved the Cass Beer CF with Lee Min Ho and 2NE1's Dara, I think this one is more edgy and surprising. Watch it all unfold after the cut.

SNSD's 별별별 ☆★☆(Star Star Star), is probably my favorite song off their 2nd album, OH!. It's a ballad that I would most likely have on replay if I'm going through a heartache. I'm so glad they were able to perform this song live as it gave an opportunity for them to actually showcase their vocals instead of hiding it through pop songs. Overall there was great emotion and Yoona did a good job of setting the mood with her intro.

Music Bank Performance of the Day: Untouchable's "Live in the Heart" ft. Narsha

There were a lot of great performances today on KBS' Music Bank, but Untouchable's Live in the Heart comeback stage featuring Narsha stole the show for me. It really is an amazingly touching song that definitely captures the essence of what a hip-hop ballad should be. I think this was a perfect collaboration as is evidenced in their spot on live vocals.

Hot off the press!!! The music video for 유키스 (U-Kiss)'s title track, 빙글빙글 (Bingeul Bingeul), off their first album Only One has been revealed. It definitely reminds me of their mv for 만만하니 in that they're trying to keep that manly concept. The boys try to appear like beast-idols in their moves and make-up, but it doesn't necessarily cover up the fact that most of them still have innocent boyish faces. The dance synchronization is tight but the choreography for some reason makes me laugh. I have the same feelings for this as I did with 만만하니, however that song eventually grew on me so I'm waiting to see how all this looks and sounds on a live stage.

언터쳐블 (Untouchable) Returns with 2nd Mini-Album

Hip hop duo 언터쳐블 (Untouchable) returns with their second mini-album. The music video for their title track, 가슴에 살아 (Live in the Heart) feat. 나르샤 (Narsha) of Brown Eyed Girls, has also been released. Narsha was unable to film the music video and in her stead is actress Na Hye Mi from Unstoppable High Kick. I'm really loving this comeback song. It sounds really sweet and sentimental with Narsha's vocals. They are set to comeback on Music Bank this Friday, so hopefully Narsha will be joining them on stage.

궁 (Goong) the Musical?!

For my O-M-G moment of the day, I bring tidings regarding one of my favorite k-dramas.

궁(Goong), which starred 윤은혜 (Yoon Eun Hye) and 주지훈 (Joon Ji Hoon) as the lovable royal couple, is being turned into a musical. Say what?!

Two of my favorite things (k-dramas and musicals) combined makes me super super happy!

The musical is expected to debut at the Seoul National Museum theater on September 3rd under the Group Eight production company. It looks to be promising as they have enlisted the original producers and writer In Eun Ah to help bring it to the stage.

As a fan I loved the drama's soundtrack for its mix of modern music to more traditional instrumentals. It seems the company is taking that route as well. According to Dramabeans,

"The musical will also feature a fusion of song styles, from classical to hip-hop, jazz, and traditional Korean. Dancing will range from ballet (one of the main characters is a ballerina) to court dance to B-boying. Leads for the musical are currently being auditioned."

I'm really looking forward to hearing news about the costumes and whether they'll implement the famously cute bears (that were used in the episodes to reenact the poignant and most endearing scenes) into the production.

데이브레이크 (Daybreak)s a New Day with "좋다 (Good)"

I think I'm going through a band phase. I love FT. Island and C.N. Blue. I'm looking forward to what Sponge Band has to offer and a basically unknown indie band to the masses, 데이브레이크 (Daybreak), has returned after a two year hiatus.

I adore the music video for their title track 좋다 (Good), off their latest mini-album New Day. Giving off the feel of a k-drama but documentary style, the video is really cute and provides scenes of what a real couple may go through during a relationship. The song has a great feel-good vibe that perfectly fits its music video. It reminds me of the butterfly feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you're crushing over someone.

F. CUZ Covers 2AM's "이노래 (This Song)"

I must admit that I wasn't impressed with F. Cuz's debut track Jiggy. I found it to be a generic pop song that didn't showcase their talent. With that being said, I'm really glad they had an opportunity to demonstrate their vocals on KBS Cool FM radio during Seo Kyung Suk's Music Show. They did a cover of 2AM's 이노래 (This Song). They did the song justice and I loved the harmony.

Are rock bands the new trend in S. Korea? With the debut and popularity of C.N. Blue, this may be the opportune time for instrumental bands to make their mark in the K-Pop/idol industry.

A new group is set to debut February 19th and with a name like 스폰지밴드 (Sponge Band), they've already got my attention. Another thing that piques my interest is the fact that the band has 4 girl members to 1 guy member. Makes for some entertaining dynamics right?
Prior to debut, they actually participated in the 천만번 사랑해 (Loving You a Thousand Times) OST with the song 우리 이대로.

Oh Song actually released a mini-album, 여름아 부탁해 (I Beg You Summer), in July 2008 but is now a part of this group.

So I was "away" from K-Dreams for some time, about two months in fact. Did that mean that I no longer loved K-pop or that I had lost interest? NO WAY!

Where I've been...actually one of the things I've been doing involves the promotion of Asian American entertainment.

Asian Americans are on the brink when it comes to showcasing themselves in the entertainment/athletic industry, however they need the support of fellow Asian Americans and require an outlet to make themselves known. What better way to get “plugged in” than a visit to AAtheory.com!

I love, love, love to laugh and this sure brought out the chuckles. The always awesome and innovative monmonsnow combined a scene from popular drama Iris with SNSD's comeback from Music Core. As many of us know, MBC had a problem occur during the performance in which the screen went black for five seconds. Watch this clip and see how this error affects Lee Byeong Heon's character Kim Hyeon Joon.

"Teuk"Academy Brings on the Laughs

I'm a big fan of the Teuk Academy (formerly "Boom" Academy) segment on 강심장 (Strong Heart). I often watch the show just to see that bit of comedy, so naturally I loved the 밴쿠버 올림픽 100배 즐기기 skits that they did on the special 2010 Winter Olympic edition of Inkigayo.

Highlights:

Shin Dong's attempts at graceful figure skating.

Short track speed skating is one of my favorite Winter Olympic sports because of Apolo Anton Ohno. I can't explain how utterly delighted I was that Lee Teuk and Shin Dong parodied him. Loved seeing them with Apolo's signature goatee!

Shin Dong shows us that the danger of bobsledding.

2AM & Beast Bring Out their Inner Champions!

2AM and Beast collaborated for a special stage on Inkigayo today in light of the fact that the winter olympics are coming up. Performing Psy's Champion, the boys sure looked like they had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed their teamwork as it certainly put a smile to my face.

SNSD's Big Hair Makes for a Big Comeback

The return of SNSD on MBC's Music Core, has got fans all in a tizzy. They performed two songs for their comeback, Show Show Show and their title track Oh!

Show Show Show, featured big hair, top hats, and disco balls. Quite the combination for a "musical" concept. Knowing that they had performed this song during their Asian concert tour, I expected that they would perform it with ease and familiarity. The performance met my expectations but I did have problems with the way MBC's production kept on jumping from camera to camera. I admire the fact that they wanted to capture the stage from different angles and focus on each girl, but it sure did give me a headache.

Music Core closed with SNSD's Oh! and based on fan reactions, it's almost certain that the girls will be riding on another hit. Despite the five second blank screen towards the end of the recording, I'd say their first comeback stage was a success. The blue and yellow hair extensions really stuck out like a sore thumb, but as its part of their "cheerleader" concept I'm not completely ruling it to be a hair faux pas.

Announcement 1: K-Dreams Site Gets a Facelift!

The new year brings a newly improved K-Dreams blog site. After learning a few things about blogging it was time to implement a simple and clean look. I realized that the site originally was not as organized as I had imagined and among other things it lacked user/content friendly features. Hopefully with this, I'll be able to achieve a more organized approach to my blog.

4tomorrow, Wanna be a Model like UEE?

The special project group 4Tomorrow released their Tomorrow digital single, along with music videos in support of Anycall brand cell phones. Now each member is showcased in their own music mini-drama. The fourth and final member to release her "challenge" was After School's UEE.

In this music drama, UEE takes on the role of an aspiring model. She is given an opportunity to walk the runway but her nerves get the best of her and she ruins the show. In order to prove herself, she practices her poses and walk. The designer sees her hard work and re-hires her. Although she has a malfunction with her shoe, UEE uses her dance moves to save face and becomes the star of the catwalk. Watch it all unfold below.

Aigoo, f(X) has returned with Chu~♡ the track and single-album. While I at first was not sold on the song, it slowly grew on me and I find it more catchy than LaChaTa. Out of the three songs off the album however, I like Step By Me the most. It's cute and light. Check out the music video for Chu~♡ below.

that completely blows me away. His music video concept for A Boy is not only interesting, but unique and captivating as well. Fashion faux pas aside, G-Dragon went for something quite creative and metaphorical. I love how there is a child within the apple as if it were a womb. Very symbolistic. This is one vid. you can't miss!

Girl group T-Ara had been tapped to endorse Nonghyup Apples. Their Apple Song was released earlier and today the CF music video became available. I really like the song as its very upbeat, which is perfect for a CF. The music video is also very eye catching and cute with its bright colors and fairytale like plot. It's also reminiscent of old mystery movies/shows with a detective. Although all six girls appear, member Ji Yeon was the main character.

U-KISS Returns

Former six member group U-KISS has returned with a new addition and a new mini-album, ContinUkiss. While I don't understand the decision to go with seven people, at least they are trying to regain a position in the K-pop world. I borderline enjoy their title song, Man Man Ha Ni (만만하니). Its full of auto-tune, but the verses' background beat is sickeningly catchy. The music video and style concept is nothing new and reminds me of SS501, SHINee, and Big Bang, along with many other boy bands.

Hwanhee Missed Your Heart. . .

Fly to the Sky's Hwanhee has comeback with his first solo mini-album, H Soul. As I've always admired Fly to the Sky, I looked forward to what Hwanhee had to offer. I definitely wasn't disappointed in his title track Because I Missed Your Heart. It's an upbeat pop-dance song that gives off a happy feeling despite the sadness within the lyrics. I also loved the choreography. Look out for the parts where he sings in what appears to be a bathroom lined with sinks.
